__________ Tipping Guidelines __________ Written By Mr. O'Rourke, Salt Lake's Senior Editor... / email: bobutah@gmail.com Hotel tipping can be confusing for even the most seasoned traveler. However, knowing the basic tipping rules allows you to have a good stay while appropriately tipping staff. To put it simply, keep more money in your wallet during your stay and reward those who served you well. Tipping Shuttle Drivers
Some hotels may offer shuttle services to and from the airport. You may also be able to use these services to get to a restaurant or event without the need for a cab or Uber driver. Give your shuttle driver a few dollars directly. You also might want to add a little more to the tip if the driver helps with your suitcases or other bags.
Tipping Housekeeping Staffs $1 to $5 per night is standard, though $5-$10 is recommended in more-luxury hotels. Daily tipping ensures the staff currently cleaning your room receives it. Leave A Note When leaving a tip for housekeeping, leave it on the pillow or with a note that says "Housekeeping Tip" to ensure it is not mistaken for personal money. Leave Your Tip Every Day A suggestion from hotel housekeepers - leave your tip everyday. I may clean your room for two or three days in a row but if you wait until checkout to tip and i'm not working that day, someone else gets the tip. Put it on the bed, or put it in an envelope and write Housekeeping on it. Leave it in the room rather than taking it to the front desk. Bellhop / Luggage Assistance $1 or $2 per bag is standard, or $5+ for extensive help. Valet Parking $2 to $5 upon retrieval of the vehicle. Concierge $5 to $10 for directions or restaurant reservations; $10 to $50 for hard-to-get bookings or special requests. Cash Is King Always carry small bills ($1, $5 and $10) as hotel staff often cannot break larger bills. All-Inclusive While gratuities are often included, it is still common practice to tip for excellent service. My Personal Tip: Being polite and friendly at check-in can go a long way as well. Try it, what have you got to lose? Another Personal Tip: / Book Directly Through the Hotel With all their junk advertising, third party booking sites might seem like the cheapest option, but booking directly through a hotel's website can come with unexpected perks. Hotels often reward direct bookings with extras like complimentary breakfast, better room locations or even discounts on future stays. Plus, it increases your chances of being prioritized for upgrades. ______________________________
